Get Yourself An All Terrain Pushchairs – Great If You Like Exercise!?

All terrain pushchairs are three-wheel pushchairs with large pneumatic tyres that are designed to be used across all kinds of terrains. Probably not around when you were a baby, they are a more recent development that works on similar principles to mountain bikes. The tyres need inflating, are chunky and give more suspension to keep baby comfortable wherever you take the buggy, pavements, beaches or fields or simply jogging.

You will find that all terrain pushchairs will have a longer wheel base and much larger wheels than a “normal” pushchair. You will of course find some that recline or that have the ability to add on a carrycot, however, baby should not be taken on too rough rides until they are at least three/four months old.

Do not assume that all three-wheelers are all terrain pushchairs. Because three-wheelers have become fashionable there are a lot more of them around but a good rule-of-thumb is whether they have large pneumatic tyres. Check the usage the manufacturer suggests to be sure.

Make sure there is a 5-point safety harness and that you have a rain cover, sun cover and travel bag. You may also like to get a foot muff and perhaps a car seat if appropriate. A wrist strap is a particularly useful addition in case you forget to put the brakes on, you inadvertently let go or they fail (the latter is unlikely but possible).

Do you really need an all terrain pushchair? If you are just getting one because they are cool but will only use it on pavements, don’t bother. They are larger to manoeuvre in and out of shops, bulkier to get in the chair and you may find you have to take the wheels off. Although the larger the wheels are the more comfortable the ride, it does make it more difficult to get in your car. You must remember to take the pump with you everywhere and a puncture repair kit.

In summary, all terrain pushchairs offer a good option to those who wish to continue or start exercising with their baby across all surfaces. They are not ideal for town use if you are in and out of a car as they are quite bulky although easy to fold.

The best and possibly best bargains in the UK for all terrain pushchairs can be found HERE and look for the “Out n About” range.
